February 7 FRATERNITY is being a brother even to those who reject you There was no room for them to stay in the inn. Luke 2:7 Dr. Charles Drew was an African-American graduate of prestigious Amherst University. A surgical consultant for the U.S. Army, he developed the process for preserving blood and using it for transfusion. Incredibly, he was not allowed to donate his blood to the Red Cross Blood Bank because he was black. More incredibly and more tragically, after a car accident in 1950, he was refused his own discovery, at a North Carolina hospital. He died during the long drive to find a hospital that would treat black patients. ~ Mark Link, S.J. What are Knights doing to combat prejudice in the nation we love? What more might we do? There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest it.~ Elie Wiesel
