PATRIOTISM is waging war against evil

Christ Jesus… gave himself to redeem all mankind.  ~ 1 Timothy 2:5-6

This month, back in 1865, the slain body of President Lincoln lay in state in Cleveland, Ohio.  It was on its way from Washington, DC to Springfield, Illinois, where it would be buried. 
In the long line of people filing past the body was a poor black woman and her little son.  When they reached the president’s body, the woman lifted up her son and said in a hushed voice, “Honey, take a long, long look.  That man died for you.”

What that mother said about Lincoln, every mother could say to her child about Jesus.  Both Jesus and Lincoln tell us that waging war against evil involves great personal suffering – even the loss of one’s own life.  ~ Mark Link, S.J.

Against what modern evil should the Knights be willing to wage war and suffer much – even losing our lives, if necessary?
