August 4  ~ Columbian Squires Anniversary (1925)

 FRATERNITY is a father’s affirmation

Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.  ~ Colossians 3:21

Somewhere between the ages of three to five, little boys are “discovered” by their fathers.  At that age, children begin to “function” better.  Most men know better what to do with children when they function.  Now that a little boy plays more productively, a father can step in and begin to teach him to “do” some things.  About this time, a little boy recognizes a kinship with his father and begins to form an identity as a male.  Our fathers teach us how to work.  Our fathers show us how to do things together.  Our fathers teach us to take risks.  All of these are great lessons.  And if you were one of a fortunate few, perhaps your father was also tender and nurturing.  His affirmations helped your self-confidence to grow strong.  Our fathers lay the groundwork for the next generation.  ~ Dick Brian Klaver, Men at Peace

Fathers, do you fit the description above?

Knights, how can we lay the groundwork for the next generation through our Squires?  Would our council consider sponsoring a Squires service project such as “Crusade against Poverty” or “Project Build”?

For councils not currently sponsoring a Squires Circle –

What better way to inject youthful leadership into our Order than by setting up a Circle as a feeder organization for Knights?

I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.~ Sigmund Freud
