August 7 FRATERNITY is fathers on their knees Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker… ~ Psalm 95:6 I want to ask you, Dad: When was the last time your children saw you on your knees, seeking direction from God? That’s an unmistakable lesson to a child. To be a spiritual man you must take time to talk to Him and to listen to him through His Word. The regularity of this meeting, not its length, is the important thing. When you’re running late, pause long enough to get on your knees and tell the LORD, “I am committing this day to you. Late as I am, I am not leaving this house without getting on my knees before You.” God will reward that commitment. Your attitude of mind covers your home. When your attention is focused on the Truth, you are exercising the mind of Christ. When I think as Christ thinks, I am loving my wife and children more faithfully; I am more sensitive to the needs of those around me. Apart from Christ, you cannot be the man, the husband, and the father you can be. ~ Charles Stanley, A Man’s Touch A prayer of commitment and a Bible verse is a good way to launch every new day. Would this commitment lay the groundwork for a longer period of meditation and Bible study later on? Would our council benefit from a Bible study group open to all men of the parish, not just Knights? Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men (Luke 2:52). Jesus grew mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. What a powerful example of a life fully lived! ~ J.A. Lacy
