CHARITY is a healing presence

People would take their sick to the marketplaces and beg Jesus to let the sick at least touch the edge of his cloak.  And all who touched it were made well.  ~ Mark 6:56

England was involved in the Crimean War in Russia from 1845 to 1856.  The wounded were laid side by side in makeshift hospitals that were dirty, overcrowded, and understaffed.  The wind blew the stench from open sewers, making breathing difficult.  Rats ran wild.
Into this incredible, hopeless situation came Florence Nightingale and 38 nurses she had trained in England.  Sometimes she spent 20 hours straight on her feet, directing sanitation efforts and bandaging the wounded.  The bedridden soldiers worshiped her and would “kiss her shadow as it fell across their pillows.”
If the sick and the needy are to experience Jesus’ healing presence today, it must be through loving, caring people.  ~ Mark Link, S.J.

How is our council striving to be a healing presence of Jesus in today’s world?

Blessed is the influence of one, true, loving human soul on another.  ~ George Eliot
